Clos de la Roche
BurgundyClos de la Roche is a red wine with appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) status, produced in the Côte de Nuits region of Burgundy, France. It is made from Pinot Noir grapes, the emblematic variety of the region.
Clos de la Roche is regarded as one of the most prestigious wines of the Côte de Nuits, offering aromas of red fruits, cherry and blackcurrant, accompanied by subtle notes of oak wood and truffle. It possesses a well-balanced tannic structure and fresh acidity that lend it considerable length on the palate.
Clos de la Roche is produced from grapes cultivated within a walled vineyard, from which it derives its name. This vineyard, situated in Gevrey-Chambertin, is among the oldest in the region, having been planted during the Middle Ages. It is also one of the smallest, comprising only 1.5 hectares of vines. This modest size enables superior grape quality, as growers are able to attend to each vine with careful attention.
Clos de la Roche is a wine that improves with age and can be cellared for several years, though it may be enjoyed in its youth to appreciate its fresh, fruity aromatics. It is often paired with red meat dishes such as beef bourguignon, or with aged cheeses.
