Pregos are the ultimate Portuguese sandwich: thinly sliced beef carpaccio pan-fried for just 2 minutes, golden caramelized onions, fresh tomato, and a garlicky juice that soaks everything in. You slide it all into a warm roll. Best made for 4 people max, and timing is everything.
Ingredients for 5 servings
- 3 large onions, thinly sliced
- A little butter and oil
- 25 large slices of beef carpaccio
- 2 to 3 tomatoes
- 3 to 4 garlic cloves
- 5 to 6 tablespoons of Oxo or equivalent beef flavoring like Maggi (to taste)
- A little cold water (to taste)
- The juice of 1 lime
- 10 rolls or 2 baguettes
- Sauce of your choice (aioli preferred)
