- 25 oz (700 g) cooked sauerkraut
- 2.8 oz (80 g) blanched bacon lardons
- 1 onion, peeled and sliced into rings
- 1 slightly tart apple (Granny Smith)
- 1.25 cups (30 cl) blonde beer
- Butter and oil or a knob of lard
- Salt and freshly ground pepper
