Pouilly-sur-Loire
Loire ValleyPouilly-sur-Loire is a white wine produced in the Loire Valley region of France. It is made from Sauvignon Blanc grapes and is renowned for its dry and crisp character. The Pouilly-sur-Loire vineyard extends across approximately 3,000 hectares and is primarily known for wines produced in the communes of Pouilly-sur-Loire, Saint-Andelain, and Tracy-sur-Loire.
The wines of Pouilly-sur-Loire are generally vinified using traditional methods that preserve the natural aromas of Sauvignon Blanc. The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness and are then pressed and fermented at low temperature to retain fresh and fruity aromas. The wines are subsequently aged in tank for several months before bottling.
Pouilly-sur-Loire wines are often described as exhibiting aromas of stone fruits, exotic fruits, grapefruit, and lime. They also display mineral and floral notes that recall the region's stony soils. They are intensely dry and fresh, with high acidity, which makes them ideally suited to accompany fish and seafood.
Several crus of Pouilly-sur-Loire exist, each with its own characteristics. Wines from the communes of Pouilly-sur-Loire and Saint-Andelain are noted for their fruitiness and freshness, while those from Tracy-sur-Loire display more intense aromas and greater structural complexity.
