  • 1/4 c (0.3 cup (60 ml)) cocoa
  • 1 tsp (0.2 fl oz (5 ml)) baking soda
  • 1/2 c (0.5 cup (125 ml)) melted butter
  • 1 c (1.1 cups (250 ml)) sugar
  • 1 tsp (0.2 fl oz (5 ml)) baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp (3 ml) salt
  • 2 tbsp (1 fl oz (30 ml)) vinegar
  • 1 c (1.1 cups (250 ml)) very hot water
  • N.B. you can add 1/2 c chocolate chips or raisins or nuts according to your taste
  • Frosting: 1/4 c (0.3 cup (60 ml)) soft butter
  • 1 tsp (0.2 fl oz (5 ml)) instant coffee
  • 2 tbsp (1 fl oz (30 ml)) hot water to dilute the coffee
  • 2 c (2.1 cups (500 ml)) icing sugar
