Banyuls Rancio Banyuls Rancio is a fortified sweet wine produced in the Banyuls-sur-Mer region, located in the Pyrénées-Orientales in southern France. It is made from Grenache noir grapes, cultivated on the steep terraced slopes of the Mediterranean coast, where optimal sunlight and intense heat create ideal ripening conditions. This wine is characterised by its amber colour and bright appearance, with aromas of dried fruits, honey, and candied fruits. It possesses a rich and complex flavour profile, with subtle notes of wood and hazelnut. Banyuls Rancio is produced using oxidative ageing techniques, which impart its distinctive colour and character. Banyuls Rancio pairs excellently with desserts such as dried fruit cakes, walnut tarts, and cheese. It also complements grilled meat dishes and smoked fish preparations well. The Banyuls-sur-Mer region is equally notable for its cultural heritage and unspoilt natural landscape. The terraced vineyards, caves of Banyuls-sur-Mer, and hiking trails through the surrounding mountains are essential features of the area. The nearby Albères Regional Nature Park offers commanding views across the sea and mountains, while fine sandy beaches and secluded coves provide opportunities for outdoor pursuits including diving, kayaking, and hiking.
