Sartène Corsican Wine
Provence & CorsicaSartène Vin de Corse is a red wine produced in the Sartène region, located in the southwest of Corsica. It is made from local grape varieties including Nielluccio, Sciacarello, and Grenache.
Sartène wine is characterized by its aromatic complexity, with notes of red fruits, blackcurrant, and cherry. It also displays aromas of licorice, pepper, and tobacco, alongside good acidity and moderate tannin structure.
Sartène wine is typically aged in oak barrels, which impart vanilla and caramel aromas. It is often matured on its lees as well, contributing depth and additional complexity.
The vineyards of Sartène are situated on schist and granite soils that lend the wine a characteristic minerality and freshness. The region benefits from a Mediterranean climate, with warm summers and mild winters, allowing optimal ripening of the grapes.
Sartène wine pairs excellently with red meat dishes, aged cheeses, and traditional Corsican fare such as pork with figs or chestnut pasta. It is also an excellent choice to accompany shellfish and fish-based dishes.
