Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Rhône ValleyChâteauneuf-du-Pape wines stand as a reference point among red wines from the Rhône region of France. This region is situated in eastern France, within the Rhône Valley, between Avignon and Orange. Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines are produced from 13 different grape varieties, with Grenache as the principal varietal.
The Châteauneuf-du-Pape region is renowned for its volcanic soils and terraced vineyards that benefit from optimal sun exposure. These climatic and geological conditions favour the production of powerful and elegant red wines, displaying aromas of red fruits, liquorice, pepper, and garrigue.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines are subject to strict production regulations to ensure their quality. Vignerons must observe specific planting densities, yields, and winemaking methods to obtain the Châteauneuf-du-Pape Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) designation.
Two types of Châteauneuf-du-Pape exist: red wines and white wines. The red wines are the most renowned and widely produced, crafted from Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault. The white wines are produced from Clairette, Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, and Bourboulenc.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines are ageworthy, capable of being cellared for several years to reach full maturity. They are ideally suited to accompany dishes of red meat, game, or aged cheeses.
