Alsace Wine

Alsace & Eastern France
Share
Alsace wines are renowned for their aromatic complexity and finesse. This wine region, located in northeastern France, is celebrated for its unique grape varieties and traditional cultivation methods. Alsace wines are produced from varieties such as Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, and Sylvaner. Alsace white wines are particularly appreciated for their mineral character and balanced acidity. Riesling, the most widely cultivated variety in Alsace, is known for its apple and lemon aromas with notes of minerality. Gewurztraminer, for its part, is characterized by rose and grapefruit aromas with a spicy touch. Pinot Gris, also known as Pinot Grigio, has aromas of peach and pear with a silky texture. Sylvaner, finally, is a light and fresh white wine with apple and pear notes. Alsace red wines are also highly appreciated for their complex character and balance. Pinot Noir is the most widely cultivated red variety in Alsace and is known for its cherry and strawberry aromas with a hint of licorice. Alsace red wines are generally lighter and less tannic than the red wines of Bordeaux or Burgundy. Traditional cultivation methods in Alsace allow winemakers to produce superior quality wines. The vines are cultivated on hillsides, which provides better aeration and sun exposure. Winemakers also train their vines using the simple Guyot method, a technique that consists of pruning the vines to encourage fruit growth.
