Champagne
ChampagneChampagne is a wine region located in northeastern France with a rich and compelling history. Vines have been cultivated in this region for centuries, yet it was in the seventeenth century that Champagne wine began to take its modern form.
During this period, local monks and vignerons discovered that Champagne wine differed from other wines due to its characteristic secondary fermentation in bottle. This discovery proved to be the catalyst for the creation of the Champagne industry, which subsequently became renowned worldwide.
The terroir of Champagne is distinctive, composed of chalky and clay soils. Vines are cultivated on steep hillsides that benefit from optimal sunlight exposure. Champagne wines are produced from three principal grape varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
The region is divided into four major zones: Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne, Côte des Blancs, and Côte des Bar. Each of these areas possesses its own characteristics and produces Champagne wines of varying quality.
Today, Champagne represents a symbol of celebration and luxury throughout the world. Champagne wines are appreciated for their finesse, complexity, and freshness. Champagne also embodies French cultural tradition and takes pride in its heritage of quality and craftsmanship.
