Sancerre
Loire ValleySancerre is a renowned white wine produced in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. It is made from Sauvignon Blanc grapes cultivated on the chalky hillsides of the Loire Valley.
Sancerre is known for its fresh and mineral character, with notes of passion fruit, lemon, and apple. It is further defined by vibrant acidity and a long, refreshing finish. It is frequently served alongside fish, seafood, and soft-ripened cheeses.
The Sancerre region has been a site of wine production for centuries, though it was only in the nineteenth century that Sancerre began to be recognized as a wine of superior quality. Vignerons of the region have continued to refine their winemaking techniques, producing ever more refined and aromatic wines.
Sancerre wines are classified according to their vintage into three categories: Sancerre white, Sancerre red, and Sancerre rosé. The red and rosé Sancerres are made from Pinot Noir and are often more fruited and less austere than their white counterparts.
It is important to note that Sancerre is a wine of terroir, meaning it reflects the unique characteristics of the region in which it is produced. The chalky soils and cool breezes of the Loire Valley contribute to giving Sancerre its distinctive flavor and individual personality.
