Vouvray Vouvray wines are white wines produced in the Loire Valley region of France. Their name derives from the commune of Vouvray, situated near the city of Tours. Vouvray wines are produced from Chenin Blanc, a white varietal also used to produce wines in other French regions, notably Anjou and Savennières. Vouvray wines can be produced in different styles, ranging from dry wines to off-dry or even sparkling expressions. Dry wines are often mineral and fruity, with aromas of apple and pear. Off-dry wines possess a richer texture and may display honey and tropical fruit aromas. Sparkling wines, also known as Vouvray mousseux, are produced using the traditional method, similar to that employed in Champagne production. Vouvray wines are often regarded as superior quality wines and have been honored at numerous international competitions. They pair well with a variety of dishes, from seafood to cheese-based preparations. Dry wines frequently accompany fish or poultry, while off-dry wines pair excellently with desserts or soft-ripened cheeses. Vouvray wines are often considered age-worthy, as they can be cellared for many years without loss of quality. The oldest wines can develop complex aromas and richer structure, rendering these wines increasingly rewarding with time.
